Best Amazon affiliate niches in 2026 — by commission rate, competition, and EPC

Honest data-driven look at which Amazon affiliate niches are actually profitable in 2026. Commission rates, competition levels, and earnings per click — not "follow your passion" advice.

Most "best Amazon affiliate niches" posts list 30 vague categories and call it a day. The honest version: most niches don't pay enough to justify the work, and the few that do are crowded.

This is the data-driven version, using Amazon's actual 2026 commission schedule, real-world EPC data from agalopa.com plus aggregated Velantio customer stats, and what we'd actually pick if we were starting fresh today.

Amazon's commission rates (the floor)

As of 2026, Amazon Associates pays per category (US rates; international rates are similar within ±0.5%):

| Category | Commission | |---|---| | Amazon Games | 20% | | Luxury Beauty | 10% | | Amazon Coins | 10% | | Digital Music, Physical Music, Handmade, Digital Videos | 5% | | Physical Books, Kitchen, Automotive | 4.5% | | Amazon Fire Tablet Devices, Amazon Kindle Devices, Amazon Fashion Women's, Men's & Kids Private Label, Apparel, Amazon Cloud Cam Devices, Fire TV Devices, Amazon Echo Devices, Ring Devices, Watches, Jewelry, Luggage, Shoes, Handbags & Accessories | 4% | | Toys, Furniture, Home, Home Improvement, Lawn & Garden, Pets Products, Pantry, Headphones, Beauty, Musical Instruments, Business & Industrial Supplies, Outdoor, Tools | 3% | | PC, PC Components, DVD & Blu-Ray | 2.5% | | Televisions, Digital Video Games | 2% | | Amazon Fresh, Physical Video Games & Video Game Consoles, Grocery, Health & Personal Care | 1% | | Gift Cards; Wireless Service Plans; Alcoholic Beverages; Digital Kindle Products purchased as a subscription; Food prepared and delivered from a restaurant; Amazon Appstore, Prime Now, or Amazon Pay Places | 0% |

Note: rates change every few years. Amazon Games is 20% but has limited products; Luxury Beauty is 10% but has narrow appeal. Most working affiliates spend their time in the 3–4.5% bands.

What "commission rate" doesn't tell you

A category's commission rate is necessary but not sufficient. Two more factors:

Average order value (AOV)

A 4% commission on a $1,200 dishwasher is $48. A 3% commission on a $25 dog leash is $0.75. Even though kitchen pays better per percent, you'd need 64 dog-leash conversions to match one dishwasher sale.

Conversion rate

Big-ticket items convert at 1–3% (visitors browse for weeks before buying). Cheap impulse items convert at 8–15% (visitors decide in minutes). The math is non-obvious.

EPC (earnings per 100 clicks) combines both. Numbers below are agalopa.com data + aggregated from ~200 Velantio customers in late 2025–early 2026, in USD:

Niches that actually pay

1. Home & kitchen appliances ($45–80 EPC)

Espresso machines, stand mixers, air fryers, vacuum cleaners. Commission rate of 3% feels low, but $400–$800 AOV makes the math work.

Why this works: visitors research extensively before buying (long content rewards), warranty + return concerns make affiliate research valuable, and Amazon often has the lowest price + Prime shipping which closes deals.

Competition: high. Niche-down to "best espresso machines under $500 for small kitchens" not "best espresso machines".

2. Home improvement / power tools ($35–65 EPC)

Cordless drills, sanders, generators, smart-home devices. 3% rate, $150–$500 AOV, very intent-driven traffic.

Why this works: people Googling "best impact driver for car repair" are buying within days, not researching for fun.

Competition: moderate-high but specialization helps. "Best impact drivers for women" or "best impact drivers for left-handed users" has lower competition than the headline keyword.

3. Pet supplies ($25–50 EPC)

Dog food, cat trees, supplements, training equipment, GPS trackers. 3% rate, lower AOV ($30–$150), but enormous repeat-purchase rate.

Why this works: pet owners search constantly, ad CPM is high in this niche so the page itself can be monetized further, and emotional purchases convert fast.

Competition: extreme. Niche-down hard. "Best joint supplements for senior Labrador Retrievers" not "best dog supplements".

4. Fitness equipment ($30–55 EPC)

Adjustable dumbbells, yoga mats, treadmills, recovery tools. 3% rate, $100–$2,000 AOV.

Why this works: New Year + summer surges, gift-giving (Christmas/birthday), and home-gym trend post-2020 still alive. Strong search volume year-round.

Competition: high in mainstream products, moderate in adjacent gear (resistance bands, foam rollers, specific physical-therapy tools).

5. Outdoor & camping ($25–50 EPC)

Tents, sleeping bags, headlamps, water filters, knives. 3% rate, $40–$500 AOV.

Why this works: gear-obsessed buyers who research extensively, gift-friendly products, and seasonal demand peaks make for predictable content planning.

Competition: moderate. Specialization by activity (backpacking vs car camping vs hammock camping) gives natural narrow niches.

6. Beauty (NOT luxury beauty) ($20–35 EPC)

Skincare devices, makeup brushes, hair styling tools. 3% rate, $25–$200 AOV.

Why this works: high repeat purchases, visual content fits Pinterest + Instagram + YouTube well (multi-channel distribution).

Competition: extreme. Luxury Beauty is 10% commission but is a tightly defined Amazon category with limited products — verify a product is in Luxury Beauty before celebrating the 10%.

7. Books ($15–30 EPC)

4.5% commission, low AOV ($15–$25), but extreme conversion rate.

Why this works: it's how the Amazon affiliate program started. Book buyers convert at 12–18% — the highest of any category. Kindle Unlimited subscriptions count as qualifying sales too.

Competition: depends. Book-blog niches are crowded; "best book lists for X audience" round-ups still work if you have a clear angle.

8. Subscription services (Kindle Unlimited, Audible, Prime Video Channels) — fixed bounty per signup

Not a commission percentage but a flat bounty per signup. Currently: Audible Premium Plus ~$10, Kindle Unlimited 30-day trial ~$3, Prime Video Channels varies. These count toward the 3-sales / 180-day floor.

Why this works: low friction (free trial), no shipping/returns to worry about, evergreen content.

Competition: high but the bounty model is forgiving — a 3% sign-up rate on a $10 bounty beats a 0.5% sale rate on a $300 product.

Niches we'd avoid

| Niche | Why | |---|---| | Televisions | 2% commission, $500–$2000 AOV but extremely low conversion (people don't buy TVs via affiliate posts; they go to Best Buy or Costco). EPC under $10. | | Video games & consoles | 1% commission, low EPC, restrictive Amazon brand policies for branded reviews. | | Grocery / Amazon Fresh | 1% commission, AOV under $50, conversion is fine but math doesn't work. | | Gift cards | 0%. Don't promote. | | Pharmaceuticals / prescription medications | Banned by Amazon TOS in most jurisdictions. | | Generic "tech" sites | Computers, monitors, peripherals — the rates are 2–3% and the niche is so saturated that mid-tier sites get crushed. The successful tech sites have moats from years of accumulated authority. |

What I'd actually pick today

If I were starting a new Amazon affiliate site today:

For income soonest: home & kitchen appliances in a tight sub-niche. Pick one product category (espresso machines, air fryers, stand mixers) and own it. AOV is high, conversion is decent, and Amazon's logistics advantage closes deals you can't otherwise.

For long-term defensibility: outdoor / camping by activity. The audience is loyal, repeat-purchases are real, social distribution works (Reddit, YouTube), and you can be one of three credible sources in a narrow vertical.

Avoid: any niche where "this year vs last year" doesn't matter. "Best laptop 2026" gets re-written every January and is exhausting; "best minimalist trail running shoes" has the same content lifespan but you can write it once and update annually.

Niche-pick checklist (be honest with yourself)

Before committing to a niche, score it 1–5 on each:

  1. AOV — products you'd promote average $100+ (5) or under $30 (1)
  2. Conversion — buying-intent visitors close fast (5) or research for weeks (1)
  3. Repeat purchase — consumables / subscriptions (5) or one-shot durable (1)
  4. Seasonal — year-round demand (5) or December-only (1)
  5. Personal interest — you actually use these products (5) or you don't (1)
  6. Specialization possible — natural narrow segments exist (5) or one undifferentiated mass market (1)

Total 24+: strong niche. Total under 18: keep looking.

The #5 personal-interest score is where most affiliates get wrong advice. "Follow your passion" is bad advice when your passion is artisanal knitting (small AOV, small audience). "Pick the most profitable niche" is bad advice when you have to write 100 posts and you'll quit by post 12 because the topic bores you.

The honest answer is: pick the most profitable niche you can sustain interest in for 2 years. Both axes matter.
